From “RF to Screen” BitRouter and Coherent Logix unite to develop an ATSC 3.0 compliant receiver system

LAS VEGASBitRouter and Coherent Logix have collaborated to create one of the first ATSC 3.0 receiver systems to support the entire protocol stack as defined by the new digital television compliancy standards.

The receiver consists of the PHY layer running on the Coherent Logix HyperX™ processor and BitRouter’s ATSC3pak™ middleware that targets ATSC 3.0 and ATSC 1.0 receivers. The combination provides one of the first systems in North America delivering true compliance to the protocol stack defined under the new ATSC 3.0 standards from RF reception to displaying video.

The receiver system has been made available to a select group of initial partner companies, including Tatung Technology Inc. (TTI) who are displaying the entire receiver system in a live demonstration in their NAB suite. “ATSC 3.0 is an important technology for TTI; the receiver from Coherent Logix and BitRouter allows us to evaluate the technology and start developing our product plans,” said Jade Tseng, TTI General Manager.

“Our objective was to partner with a company well-positioned to serve the broadening requirements of the consumer electronics industry. Coherent Logix, with their fully virtualized HyperX technology, was a natural match. An SoC based on the HyperX architecture will enable us to supply our middleware to a wide variety of products due to its ability to virtualize the underlying signal processing needed to implement not only the PHY layer, but all high-performance processing,” stated Gopal Miglani, President at BitRouter. “BitRouter’s ATSC3pak supports not only 4K video resolution, but also complete integration with Internet services.”

“We are excited to be working with BitRouter, whose ATSC 1.0 experience is well-respected in the industry, with their middleware shipping in over 30 million receivers to date. Their product offerings complement our work and help us offer a complete solution to our customers who want to attack the ATSC 3.0 market,” stated Michael Doerr, President at Coherent Logix. “The success of this system validates the software-defined radio approach deployed using our HyperX technology in the terrestrial broadcast market.”

To meet with Coherent Logix for a private demonstration featuring the ATSC 3.0 receiver in their suite at the 2018 NAB Show, email clxinfo@coherentlogix.com.

The ATSC 3.0 receiver can also be viewed in the BitRouter booth – #SU14510 at the 2018 NAB Show.
